Required Equipment and Optional Equiment Rules


Uniform

Over the years the wrestling uniform has evolved. NFHS has expanded its definition of what a legal uniform is. There is still some equipment that is required like wrestling shoes and headgear, but a singlet is no longer required. If a wrestler chooses to not wear a singlet, they must wear a two-piece uniform that conforms to the rules defined in the NFHS Wrestling rule book. Listed below is a brief description.

There are two classes of equipment; required and optional/speical

Required Equipment

Below is a list of what the typical wrestler will wear in a match

Singlet is no longer required. Pictured below are the 3 options a competitor has when competing in high school wrestling competition.

Left is a short sleeved compression shirt with shorts designed for wrestling. Center is a traditional singlet. Right is a sleeved compression shirt with compression shorts. All are options for legal uniforms.

Special/Optional Equipment

Special equipment is anything else a wrestler chooses to wear during competition that is not required. Examples are:
